Get the seal kit and seal housing gasket from Cummins, it will be reasonable, not like Stealership pricing. A clean dry crankshaft before installing the seal. You can drill 1/8 hole in the outer steel ring of the seal and pull the seal using a #10 sheet metal screw and slide hammer, installing the seal is more difficult under the vehicle though. If you remove the engine to transmission adapter the rear seal housing is removable, then you can drive the seal out and install it on the bench. That seal is to be installed on the crank dry, do not lube it or handle it a bunch or it could leak, teflon seal will condition itself unlubed upon startup, it will leak if you lube the crank or the seal before install.

Remove the transmission,clutch cover, clutch plate and flywheel. Three words you can bank on, Factory Service Manual (FSM) and/or FSM Diesel Supplement. When I was younger I didn't think I could afford the FSM's or I couldn't justify the cost. But the info in them is worth 10 times what a Chilton etc is worth, they really do have better and more info. One screw up because of incomplete info would likely cost you what the superior manuals cost. In the long run your better off. Ebay you up the better info, ASAP.
